We are Dirk and Rose Uitterdijk, and along with Shirley, Gill and Hazel we are UE EP! Ellesmere Port is a medium sized industrial town on the banks of the river Mersey, and we love living here.
We want to be a community of welcome and hospitality and so we work in partnership with other churches and agencies to offer that in different ways that range from a community meal, mentoring ex offenders, meeting up with others in pubs and coffee shops, to working with the elderly and playing in a band. One of the things we enjoy the most is seeing a small community begin to develop; we meet together on a Tuesday evening and at the moment are looking forward to our first baptism.
Life is certainly varied, but amongst all the events and projects we are wanting to build a sustainable rhythm of life. We want to be a reflective community, open to see God in all the ways in which God is revealed through the ordinariness of life. Making time and space for that sometimes feels a cop out and a luxury when we see so much need around us, but we are convinced that part of our calling is sometimes to withdraw and just ‘be’.
